Air
You will want to fly into San Jose Airport (SJO). Our airline of choice is JetBlue or Southwest for comfort and ease of travel. They offer non-stop flights from Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale if you're in Florida. Delta, American, Spirit, Taca, and United also fly into San Jose. Ground If you choose to rent a car, which is suggested for the adventure and convenience, we suggest Vamos Rental, Zuma, or our property manager has cars available on site for daily rentals. Vamos will shuttle you to their office, approximately 5 minutes from the airport. They're always friendly and an easy experience. Zuma will transport you from (and back to) the airport to Jaco where you'll pick up your car. You do not need a 4x4 unless you want to get super adventurous and do some mountain driving, or travel to a remote location. If you choose not to rent a car, or if you'll be renting a car on site in the bungalow community, contact Brian at TheHermosaBungalows@Gmail.com. Van shuttle charge is approximately $110 each way, to and from Playa Hermosa. |
Driving Directions From San JoseThe Hermosa Beach Bungalow community is located approximately 1.5 hours west of Costa Rica's San Jose Airport. If you have a smart phone with a data plan, download the Waze navigation app and type in "The Backyard Bar" in Playa Hermosa. That will get you to the access road which leads to the bungalow).
Directions: You will take Highway 1 west, passing the airport and a bit of industry, for approximately 5 miles. Just past the Dos Pinos factory, you will take the roundabout (exit right) which will lead you to Highway 27. (This is NOT well marked so look for the overpass with the roundabout just past the factory. This access road will continue to take you west, for about another 5 miles, onto a toll road which is highway 27 towards Atenas and Orotina. Tolls are $1-$2 USD.) Drive for about 35-40 minutes; you will then exit when you see the signs for Jaco, just past Coyolar, which will put you on Highway 34. Follow that southwest through the towns of Tarcoles, Herradura and bypass Jaco on 34. Approximately 10 minutes south of Jaco, you'll reach Hermosa. You will make a right just after The Backyard Hotel and Restaurant. We are just down that beach road on your left. Proceed to bungalow #17 to see Brian to get your keys! |
On the Way There...If you'd like to stop along your drive, there's plenty to see after you get off of Highway 27. You'll pass plenty of fruit stands, outdoor markets, and souvenir shops just north of Tarcoles on Highway 34. Once you get to Tarcoles bridge, park your car and walk out onto the bridge. You'll see giant crocodiles sunbathing on the river banks below.
If you're hungry, stop at Restaurante Vista Mar in Tarcoles for amazing seafood, ocean views, and sunsets. Or, if you're heading in around sunset, Villa Caletas offers the most expansive views of the Jaco area and the sunsets are amazing. Food is good but you're paying for the view. If you see any "Soda" along the way, you can't go wrong. These are local eateries and their food is always delicious, fresh, and inexpensive. ***Upon booking bungalow 19, you will receive a booklet via email with more detailed suggestions for groceries, dining, nightlife and tours. |
